Review: 2020 BMW R 1250 RS

The new BMW R 1250 RS motorcycle is great for your touring needs. Especially if you’re interested in a sportier look. This is the bike for you. It has got a sleek and sophisticated look. Whilst being versatile to suit your needs. The RS will suit the riders who commute. Also, those who enjoy going around those twisty corners too.

Engine, Power, and Torque

RS has a great air-/liquid-cooled engine for all of your needs. It has a 1,254 cc Boxer twin-engine, BMW’s best boxer engine yet. The engine has great power being able to go at 136 hp at 7,750 rpm. It has a peak torque of 105 lb-ft at 6,250 rpm. The same package that has been used on previous models (R 1200R, GS, and RT).

The ShiftCam has been transformed. The variable valve timing is fantastic. It has a great, smooth, and powerful delivery. When it is in use, it is almost undetectable.

Comfort and Ergonomics

It is a sports bike that is built to provide comfort over long-riding days. Due to its slant, it becomes a hybrid of a sport-touring machine. This RS is not as intense as BMW’s other sport bikes. The adjustable windscreen can prevent any strong wind blast. This small detail makes a massive difference.

The position is more traditionally sporty than it is touring. The handlebars on the RS are forward set. Due to the height, the turnability will feel very natural. Making you feel confident going around any corners. The position that the mirrors are in is great. This is due to them being a little big far forward.

Quickshifter and Electronics

The RS Quickshifter system is fast and light. In lower gears, there are big throttle openings. It isn’t always consistent if you’re in touring mode. The Quickshifter is more effective when downshifting. It may be the best just using the light clutch as it isn’t any smoother.

The RS TFT display is super readable and informative. It has a sporty look with twin LED headlights. The rider can use the menu button and the suspension modes easily. To adjust to various road conditions when riding. The RS model comes with 2 modes: rain and road. It has a hill -start control, anti-lock brakes, and stability control.

If you want to purchase a motorcycle that has all the packages. The Select Package is your best bet. It includes Dynamic ESA, ABS Pro, Gear Shift Assist Pro, DTC. Also, includes a keyless ride, and customizable rider mode. You’ll have heated grips, tire pressure monitoring, and cruise control. Most importantly a super helpful and efficient center stand. This package is an extra $3150 on top of the base price.

Suspension, Brakes, and Handling

The way that the bike handles itself is fantastic. You’ll be feeling at ease whenever you attack a corner. Or when you’re weaving yourself in and out of traffic or over mountainous terrain. With the bike’s smooth shaft and responsive chassis. It is effortless and exhilarating. Due to the switchable traction control and ABS.

The brakes are in a nice position at the top of the bike. They are precise and responsive. With Brembo front and rear brakes, that provides dynamic control of the bike. With twin floating discs with 4-piston radial calipers up and front. And a single disc 2-piston floating caliper in the rear.

The wheelbase is a 60.2 in. that is paired with a front suspension. It is an adjustable 45mm upside-down telescopic fork. The swingarm is an aluminum cast. Aided by BMW’s shaft-damping paralever rear suspension.
